Safeguarding and child protection is everyone’s responsibility. In order to promote best practice in safeguarding, it is recommended that all out of school settings should designate an adult, known as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to have lead responsibility for safeguarding.

The DSL should act as a source of advice and support to staff and volunteers on matters of safety and welfare and decide if a concern should be referred to children’s social care services. This one-day course aims to enhance knowledge and understanding of child abuse and safeguarding issues that can put children at risk, how to refer concerns and what to expect when a referral is made.
This training will enable the Designated Safeguarding Lead to understand their role in ensuring a high standard of safeguarding within the Madrassah and how to act on and, if required, investigate child protection concerns. This includes dealing with police and local authority as well as procedures in dealing with complaints regarding staff and volunteers.
By the end of this session, staff will be able to:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead
- Have knowledge of how the child protection process works
- Share good practice with colleagues in developing safeguarding and supporting staff and volunteers in your setting
- Consider the importance of safe practice in working with children and awareness of the procedure in dealing with concerns about staff or volunteers
Attendees will receive a certificate after participating for the full duration of the course and undertaking a short post-training assessment.
