The current law states that people who work with children have to keep them safe. The Children’s Act (1989) and (2004) sets out safeguarding legislation designed to improve measures to safeguard children and promote their well being. In addition to this jobs that involve working with children require an enhanced DBS check (formerly known as an enhanced CRB check).
United Kingdom is also a signatory to United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child which sets out the rights of children to be free from abuse. Guidance on safeguarding is also provided by the UK government in their document ‘Working to Protect Children 2013.’
