What are DBS Checks?
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps employers make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, including children. It replaces the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).
Anyone in a position of trust that involves teaching, instructing, mentoring or administering children is required by law to have an enhanced DBS check. This includes teachers, assistants, volunteers, parent helpers, headteachers, managers, administrators and care takers.
The employer is responsible for ensuring that the correct level of check has been obtained for all staff. If it turns out that the applicant has been employed without a DBS check or was under checked and the employee is reported for any reason then the employer would be liable for prosecution and the institute will face risk of closure.
Our Role
Madrassah.co.uk is an independent organisation that offers training, support, resources and quality standards for Madrassahs and Islamic Supplementary Schools. As part of our services, we offer a simple process when applying for your Disclosure. We specialise in checking and processing Standard and Enhanced DBS checks for employees and volunteers.
What benefits does our service offer?
- Application Checking and Support
We will support you with completing the application and will be in contact if further information is required. Our aim is to have all the information required by the Disclosure and Barring Service and to ensure that all documents comply with their requirements.
We mainly check the following:
Proof of ID- We will check the name and date of birth on the ID sent to us and ensure that it matches the information submitted in the application.
Proof of Address- We will check that documents contain the same address as the one submitted in the application and that it was addressed to the applicant’s name.
5 Year Address History– A full and complete five-year address history is required by the Disclosure & Barring Service. We will check that the information provided by the applicant includes a full 5 year address history and is in proper chronological order.
- Support with Registering your Certificate on Update Service
A new and up-to-date DBS check may be requested by a new employer even if your latest DBS check certificate was produced less than a year ago. This provides extra confidence for the employer regarding a potential employee’s history and suitability to work with vulnerable people. This however, means more expenses on the part of the employee.
To avoid paying for new DBS checks at the start of new jobs, you can sign up to the DBS Update Service. Registration costs £13 per year. There’s no charge if you’re a volunteer. You must register within the 30 days of the DBS certificate being issued.
We will support you with this process and answer any of your queries.
What is the Process?
Step 1: Fill out your application form here
Step 2: Complete the online application and upload your supporting documents.
Step 3: Make payment
Step 4: Receive your Disclosure in the post within 4-6 weeks. We will guide you through the application service to avoid any unnecessary delays in receiving your DBS certificate.
Fees
Enhanced DBS checks are £53.20 for employees and £9.20 for volunteers.
